The “This Week In Weeb Podcast” Is Live!

Welcome back all you Kings, Queens, and Inbetweens! The “This Week In Weeb Podcast” is the newest venture for us here on the channel and we’d love if you check it out!

This is a brand new experience for us. A long form sort of discussion where I get to sit down with a good friend of mine and talk about everything going on in the world of weeb! Whose my friend you ask? Miguel of Felty Bear on Instagram! He is a toy reviewing, a member of my long running Dungeons & Dungeons party, and an all around great guy!

The This Week In Weeb Podcast is something that I have been planning for quite some time and have finally begun to make it a reality. “This Week In Weeb” was originally the name of the free-form podcast that I was going to start posting on our first channel, King’s Entertainment Reviews on YouTube, but once we made the decision to create this brand new channel, the name seemed to fit so well that it became the name of the channel instead, but that didn’t mean we gave up on the original idea.

So, what sort of things do we talk about? We try and keep you all updated on the news regarding the world of weeb and weeb-adjacent topics.

In the episode up above, you can hear us talk about the crack down on counterfeit anime merchandise. TV Tokyo won a huge victory in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against 301 defendants who were some of the largest offenders in the world of counterfeit Naruto merchandise. The domain registrars associate with the domains for these company have been told through court order to shut down the offending websites, making them inactive and inaccessible. In the episode we discuss the ramifications of this court case on the individual vendors that set up their tables at your local convention.

Another topic we cover in this episode is Hayao Miyazaki finally getting a Golden Globe for Best Animated Film! It has been a long time coming for Miyazaki even though he was already a winner of an Oscar for the same category at the 75th Academy Awards in 2002, for Spirited Away. Hayao Miyazaki has been a formative creator within the world of anime features and his work is often considered the gold standard for the worldwide appeal of anime feature films. For me, this reflects a positive trend for the western acceptance of animate features coming out of Japan.

If you are a manga fan you may want to listen to us discuss the current state of Manga vs. Graphic Novels and it’s effect on the adaptations that spawn from them. If you are a fan of the MCU, does watching one of the movies you like make you want to go consume the source material in the comics? I’m not so sure about that, but we know it works that way for manga. A perfect example, Apothecary Diaries! The “House MD if he was a teenage girl in feudal China” anime has seen millions of copies worth of increased sales since the premier of the anime, presumably from manga fans looking to read ahead!

On top of all that, we talk about the latest updates on the Winter 2024 Anime Season that Miguel has been keeping up on! 7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life Married to Her Worst Enemy and Mr. Villain’s Day Off have been brightening our cold winter days and we let you know what we think as of the latest episodes!
